Get the best start in your new hobby

Embroidery is a hugely popular hobby practised by millions of people worldwide. Personally I find embroidery an excellent way to relax at the end of a long day.

Not only do I find it relaxing, but the customization that I can add to all manner of household items and clothes is almost without end.

There is quite a lot to take in for those new to embroidery. From different types of stitches to learning how to transfer your own designs onto items.

Getting your head around it all can be quite daunting.

Finding yourself a good embroidery book for beginners can eliminate many of the problems people new to the craft will face. Many will have their own sets of patterns for you to try and will contain a glossary of common terms you will need to learn.

Review time

Being one of my favourite past times, I found it pretty easy to choose a book that is perfect for beginners.

I finally settled on this choice because it covers everything you need to know as a beginner and then some. This is my choice for the best embroidery book for beginners.

Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners

This is one of my all time favorite embroidery books. If you’re just starting out into the world of embroidery there couldn’t be a better introduction. Written in a style that is easy for a novice to understand without being condescending, the tone is a perfect welcome to this most excellent of hobbies.

With its beautiful embroidered cover you can instantly see some of the possibilities available to you before you even read a word of this fantastic craft book.

Doodle Stitching: Fresh & Fun Embroidery for Beginners starts out by teaching you all the relevant stitches and techniques you will need as a novice. Full color photos and simple step by step instructions makes learning really easy and stress free.

After you have learnt and practised your stitching there is a whole segment devoted to different styles you can learn and then continues with a basic knowledge of fabric types, threads and needles. All fantastic information to have when first starting out.

After you have learnt all the basics Doodle Stitching presents you with nearly thirty different designs patterns for you to try out. This is the perfect way to test out all those new stitches and techniques you were taught earlier in the book.

All the designs are fresh and exciting, this is a change from a lot of beginner guides that focus on mundane and simple designs. This is also great for more experienced people that are just looking for a bit of inspiration.

Aimee Ray, the author, encourages you to experiment with the designs, showing you how simply changing the color and the stitch type can radically alter the look of the finished product. Being shown how you are only limited by your creativity is a liberating experience and an important lesson.

When recommending a good starting book for friends or family looking to get into embroidery, I can happily point them in the direction of Doodle Stitching safe in the knowledge they are getting the best possible introduction to my favourite pastime.
