Top 5 Embroidery Machines

With so many reviews to get through, let’s get straight to it.

Many of these machines are dual purpose machines, meaning they sew as well as embroider. For the purpose of these reviews, the features I have focused on are those that are relevant to embroidery.

I will write a small review and a list of features for each machine, this should help you make an informed choice when it’s time for you to make your purchase.

Singer EM200

If you are a regular visitor to my site you will already know how much I love Singer products. As with all Singer machines the EM200 has excellent build quality and won’t be breaking down five minutes after purchase.

Its sleek modern design is inspired by Singer’s Iconic machines, and is of the quality you would expect from a company with 160 years of experience behind them. It’s not too heavy so transportation isn’t a problem.

Packed with all the modern day features you expect from a new machine the Singer EM200 is perfect for intermediate to advanced users. For novice embroiders it comes with a online course to get you started.

The EM200 is a great all round machine and I highly recommend it.

Brother SE400

The Brother SE400 is one of my favourite combination machines. Not only is it a excellent sewing machine in its own right, it is an unrivaled embroidery machine in its price range.

The cheap price but excellent quality means that the SE400 is one of Brothers most popular machines, and rightfully so. Brilliant for beginners and experts alike, the SE400 can do it all.

Featuring the trademark Brother back-lit LCD touchscreen, organising and editing your patterns has never been easier. And if the many built-in patterns aren’t enough for you the SE400 has full computer compatibility meaning you can download any of the thousands of patterns available online.

As with all Brother products a 25 year limited warranty and a product lifetime guarantee of free phone support eliminates any concerns you may have of maintenance troubles or support.

The SE400 is such a popular choice for a good reason, try it, you won’t regret it.

Brother PE770

Yet another Brother product. It should come as no surprise that many of the machines that made this list are from this excellent company. When you buy Brother you can rest assured that your investment is worth every penny.

The PE770 is a fantastic embroidery-only machine. Featuring an oversize 5×7 inch embroidery field, it is perfect for stitching larger designs onto any surface. Chock full of over 100 different embroidery designs, frame shapes and border styles the PE770’s versatility is second to none. Its built in memory allows you to import any design via USB, this allows you to take advantage of the limitless range of designs available online.

The large LCD display allows for comprehensive design editing at a professional level and lets you see what your design will look like before stitching.

If you’re looking for a embroidery-only machine that can do it all, I can thoroughly recommend the PE770.

What’s Great:

  • Large 5×7 inch embroidery field.
  • 136 built-in embroidery designs.
  • Import any design via USB.

Singer SE300

The last machine I have chosen is another combination machine. Don’t let this put you off however, the Singer SE300 is a fantastic machine for embroidery.

One problem combination machines often have is they are limited to a smaller design area, not so with the SE300. With an oversize stitching area you won’t be limited to smaller designs allowing your creativity to run riot.

Singer’s reputation for making excellent products is well known and the SE300 shows this off in every aspect. From its solid frame and components to its LCD touch-screen everything about this machine screams quality.

Often embroidery calls for slower stitching and this excellent machine has a wide range of variable stitching speeds. This allows for greater precision and a more professional look to your finished embroidery.

Just incase over 200 built-in designs are not enough for you the SE300 allows you to import any design via USB. With the near infinite range of patterns available and the ability to import your own designs what you can do with this machine is only limited by your own creativity.

What’s Great:

  • The fantastic build quality you would expect from Singer machines.
  • 200 built-in embroidery designs.
  • Oversize embroidery area.
  • 250 built-in stitches.
  • Variable stitching speed.
  • LCD touch screen.
  • Free downloadable software.
  • Import any design via USB.
  • Free online owners class.
  • Automatic needle threader.
  • Online support at any time via Singer’s official website.
  • Large accessory pack included.

What’s Not So Great:

  • Not designed for embroidery on extremely heavy fabrics or leather.
  • Can be difficult for a beginner to use.

My pick of the bunch

Often people ask me what machine I would choose out of the ones I have listed. I can tell you, having to choose between these top 5 embroidery machines is a hard task. If pressed to recommend one machine however, it would have to be the Brother PE770.

Not only is the PE770 capable of any task an embroider might need of it, it doesn’t cost the price of a small car. This makes it perfect for the home hobbyist as well as small business owners.

Top 5 Embroidery Machines: final thoughts

I have personally owned two of the above machines and have spent time operating all of them. This gives me an excellent base to offer you an informed opinion. All five of these machines are fantastic in their own right.

Everybody has different needs in an embroidery machine, I hope my reviews have helped you to make an educated decision that results in the best purchase you could possibly make.
